CHROMATIC TIMELAPSE is a cycle of 24 large-format abstract paintings inspired by the ancient Chinese division of the year into the 24 solar terms. These seasonal markers, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage, chart the rhythm of nature, agriculture, and cosmic balance in Chinese culture. 

In this series, Charles Belin de Vregille translates each solar term into a visual atmosphere of color, form, and rhythm. Drawing on the languages of Bauhaus abstraction, Le Corbusier’s architectural rigor, and the biomorphic freedom of Miró, the works combine primary colors, bold shapes, and strong black lines to create a symbolic “calendar of color.

The paintings are not literal depictions but visual poems, where each term breathes its own mood — from the rising energy of Lìchūn (Beginning of Spring) to the stark austerity of Dàhán (Greater Cold). Together, the 24 canvases form a cosmic cycle of renewal, balance, and transformation, inviting viewers to enter the pulse of time through pure chromatic expression.
